Join Quills Anonymous led by the poet and scholar Dr Kane Holborn on the second Sunday of each month in a fantastical celebration of creative writing on Zoom! We have had a broad range of published guest speakers working at the frontiers of their respective creative writing fields.

Joan McGavin - Sunday 10th September 2023 @ 8pm
Joan McGavin has degrees in English Literature and Language from Edinburgh University, a Master’s in English from the University of California and a Ph.D. in English (Creative Writing) from Southampton University (2020). She has two poetry collections from Oversteps Books: Flannelgraphs (2011) and Passing Arcadia Close (2017).
Joan was a Hawthornden Fellow in 2012 and in 2014 was Hampshire Poet, a role promoting poetry countywide. For many years she was treasurer of Writers in Southampton. She was an ‘almost founder’ trustee of the Winchester Poetry Festival, a role that stopped when she started her Ph.D. After teaching Creative Writing at the University of Winchester for twelve years (2004-2016), she embarked on Ph.D. research. Poems from her Ph.D. have appeared in journals in Britain and the US.
